Communication is the focus of this area. It is utilized by staff that include nurses, physicians, ward clerks, social workers, respiratory therapists and any other members of the team of care providers.

It is also a meeting area outside of the immediate patient's room. It allows communication amongst staff, families, and others seeking information away from the bedside where loud voices may overstimulate the infant.

A working area away from the direct bedside proximity, the nurses station still has the accessibility of the alarm system to call staff's attention to the patient when necessary.
